I am increasingly frustrated with the horrible, awful, unsafe and often terrifying bad drivers I encounter on a nearly daily basis here in Grand Island.
- A tiny old lady backed up right into the hood of my car the other day right in the alley behind the paper. Did not even glance behind her to see if there was a car there.
- Drivers in such a freaking hurry on Eddy that they must get into the left-turn only lane at the underpass, speed, and then cut in line in the right lane. I'm sure getting there 2 seconds sooner will make all the difference in the world. Jerk.
- People who turn into your lane from a side street causing you to hit your brakes or risk rear-ending them, when if they had waited for you to pass, they would have had all the time in the world to turn as it was clear for miles.
- At 1st and Eddy. If you are turning left onto First street when the arrow turns green, that's cool. If the arrow turns yellow, you probably have enough time to make it. But when the light turns green for the rest of us to go, DO NOT TRY TO "MAKE IT" because you, selfish person, are making the rest of us wait for your sorry self.
- Make an effort to learn the rules of a 4-way stop intersection, ok? Don't 'be nice' and wave someone through. Follow the rules of the road so it's orderly because you'll throw everyone else off and they won't know when to go. If you and I come to a 4-way stop at the same time, and I am on your left, then YOU have the right of way. Just go already.
- Speaking of stop signs - some of you should try, you know, actually stopping at them.
- Don't run a red light. I know we've all had moments of 'oops!' and we totally did not mean to run a red. But you should feel some guilt when that happens and you should never do it on purpose, or because you're distracted by your cell phone convo. You could kill someone.
- Don't drive slower than the speed limit, it just ticks me off. If you're lost and looking for an address, pull over if you see someone behind you getting impatient. Let them pass, then carry on. Don't do it on purpose either. And on the flipside, don't speed either.
- For the love of Yoda, Stolley Park is NOT a two-lane street on each side. When you drive bang up next to the curb, you are doing it wrong.
- Slow down, for crying out loud, in school zones. Even if there are no kiddies about, you never know when a cop might be lurking and the fine is bigger than a normal speeding ticket.
- Here's a new one: if it's icy out - DRIVE SLOWER and DON'T TAKE TURNS SO QUICKLY. That's kind of a 'duh' actually.
- If you absolutely MUST yap on your cell phone, invest in a bluetooth ear piece for hands-free talking.
- Just have some courtesy and respect for your fellow drivers. Obey the traffic *laws* and don't try to 'get away' with stuff. GI's not that big, you'll get where you need to be anywhere in town in 10 minutes or less.
</end rant>
I feel better now.

I feel better now. I agree with you whole heartedly, I think if Ben Franklin knew about cars, he would have said Death, Taxes, and bad drivers...

Well, since we can't read or post comments on the newspaper page guess this will have to do.
I totally agree with the Stolley Park Road thing....but now maybe they should just go ahead and make it two lanes? Or perhaps a turn lane the whole way? It's kind of a stupid road...there are hardly ever any cars parked so it is kind of going to waste. The worst part of the road is when people stop to turn onto Harrison and other cars pass on the right (against the law IDIOTS) and even worse when there are kiddies there because of school. They do that a lot when cars are turning onto Adams as well. I'm assuming that's kind of the scenario with the pedestrian fatality on Broadwell recently? Someone was in a hurry and passed on the other side even though it IS a two lane street there? On that topic...do you know how many people have argued that there IS NOT a crosswalk there? My S-I-L drives that street several times a day because she lives in the vicinity and she vehemently denied the existence of a cross walk!!!! Scary that people don't know streets that they drive on repeatedly!!!
Obviously Admin travels the roads they mentioned a lot to get to work....I travel the hwy 34, 281 and West Stolley areas a lot because we live there. The absolute worst intersection is 34 & 281....going east or west on 34 it is inevitable that some moron will make a right turn on red right in front of you when you are traveling at highway speeds. Right turns on red should be banned at these types of intersections. Like 281 and 13th, State and Capital also. I have literally been within 50 feet of the light, green for me, traveling at 40-50 and had some idiot make a right turn on red from 281 in front of me. There have been times that I had to pass them on the right to avoid crashing. Talk about a case for road rage. Sometimes I want to just smash into the back of them sometimes it would be the side of them.
